What Makes Viking West’s Extra Heavy Duty Buckets So Durable?
Extra Heavy Duty Wear Plates
Compared to our standard heavy duty buckets, Viking West extra heavy duty buckets have upsized abrasion resistant plates at all the wear points. Our extra heavy duty buckets use AR400 grade high-tensile, abrasion-resistant steel plates for wear bars, cheek plates and leading-edge side plates.
We’ve also increased the plate size and thickness as well as the weld sizes to handle the heavy shock loads that buckets endure.

Hard surfacing gives additional armour at critical wear points.
Hard Surfacing
In addition to using upsized wear plates at all critical wear points, Viking West extra heavy-duty buckets have a heavy dose of hard surfacing. Hard surfacing on top of the wear plate is a belt and suspenders approach to resisting wear.
Hard surfacing by weld overlay entails the application of specially formulated wear-resistant weld metal in a tight basket weave pattern. This feature provides additional armour at critical wear points on the bucket.
Upsized Bucket Teeth
Other than heavy duty wear plates and hard surfacing, we’ve outfitted Viking West dig buckets with upsized bucket teeth compared to same class heavy duty buckets.
The conditions in which you’ll use buckets will vary a lot. That’s why Viking West extra heavy duty dig buckets are available with a variety of tooth and adapter options. Requests for specific tooth style, locking system, quantity, cast or forged can all be accommodated.
All the features we’ve discussed so far make our buckets ready for the long haul. But there’s more. Keep reading to learn about the features that make the Viking West extra heavy duty buckets easy to use, last longer, and perform at a high level.

Excavator Bucket Shell
Viking West extra heavy duty buckets use the same compound curved shell geometry as our heavy duty buckets. Our design is proven to provide maximum unobstructed volume and optimal self-cleaning performance. This design element translates to maximum productivity and efficiency.

Optional Lugging Design
Viking West extra heavy duty buckets are available with pin-on and wedge lock style lugging. Both configurations utilize hi-tensile, abrasion resistant steel for lugging plates and are precision machined after final welding. In the case of pin-on style lugging, the bucket is furnished with induction hardened pins.
Either way, you can count on your bucket to connect with ease for years of trouble-free use.

Viking West extra heavy duty grading buckets come standard with three-piece reversible and replaceable cutting edges with grade 12.9 plow bolts and stover nuts holding them in place.
The three-piece configuration enables more frequent rotation and replacement of sides as the corners wear. This feature means you avoid the cost of replacing the entire cutting edge when the centre section still has plenty of life.
We believe that customization is key to getting the right tool for your specific job. While a smooth beveled edge is standard, all Viking West grading buckets can be configured with serrated edges for frozen ground applications.
