Prairie Mines Project
Project Summary
The Prairie Mines Project used an in-pipe treatment system to manage stormwater inflows of up to approximately 32,000 m3 per day. Clearflow Gel Flocculant blocks were installed in series within an existing two-metre-diameter storm pipe, allowing treatment to occur directly within the established drainage infrastructure. The number of blocks could be adjusted according to anticipated peak flow conditions.
Following the in-pipe treatment stage, the water passed through a strategically positioned field of treated Jute for final polishing before being released to the surrounding wetland. This configuration provided a practical, scalable treatment approach that made use of the site’s existing stormwater system and natural discharge area.
Key Results
- Accommodated stormwater inflows of approximately 32,000 m3 per day.
- Integrated treatment into an existing two-metre-diameter storm pipe.
- Allowed treatment capacity to be adjusted based on peak flow requirements.
- Added a treated Jute dispersion field for final water polishing.
- Enabled controlled release of treated water to the receiving wetland.
