GFR100P Customer Demonstration

GFR100P Customer Demonstration

Viking West recently demonstrated the GFR100P portable Gel Flocculant reactor at a customer site in British Columbia, showing how easily the unit can be moved into position and integrated into a simple pumped-water treatment setup

Before heading to the site, the Viking West team completed assembly and pressure-tested the unit with water at 15 psi. No leaks were observed.

Built for Access

The field demonstration began with an approximately 800-metre journey to the test location. The GFR100P’s lightweight aluminum body, large wheels and balanced design made it straightforward to move the unit over the lengthy route.

Once in position beside a pond containing dark, fine-grained soil, the reactor was connected to a submersible pump with a 20 foot hose. A discharge hose carried the treated water approximately 40 feet from the reactor into a test container, where the team could observe floc formation and settling.

Visible Floc Formation After Hydration

The GFR100P was fitted with Clearflow Gel Flocculant 494 and 360 cartridges. Water was pumped through the system at an estimated flow rate of approximately 90 US gallons per minute.

The cartridges required an initial hydration period. Visible floc formation began after approximately 800 gallons had passed through the system. As testing continued toward 1300 gallons, the team observed increasingly pronounced flocs and rapid settling in the test container.

Once hydrated, the cartridges released treatment chemistry as water flowed through the reactor. Flocs were visible as the water discharged from the hose, demonstrating the performance of the cartridge combination under the conditions tested.

Simple Operation, No Separate Dosing Power

The electric submersible pump supplied the flow needed for the demonstration. The GFR100P itself required no electrical connection or chemical metering pump.

The trial demonstrated the unit’s portability, straightforward setup and passive dosing capability, alongside visible floc formation and settling using Clearflow Gel Flocculant technology.  The set up is as simple at connecting the supply and discharge lines with 2” camlock fittings.  This takes under 1 minute to complete.

The observations were qualitative and did not establish discharge compliance. Chemistry selection, hydration time and treatment performance depend on the water and operating conditions. Downstream settling or filtration is required to capture the flocculated solids.
